PRESS RELEASE
Dr. Mars Retires from BAMC Medical Practice (May 30, 2003)

(Marinette, Wis.) – On Friday, May 30, 2003 Dr. Anthony Mars retired from his medical practice at Bay Area Medical Center (BAMC). Dr. Mars arrived in 1986 to become the first anesthesiologist in the history of our community.

Over the past 17 years Dr. Mars has raised the standard of care for patients undergoing surgery and improved patient safety. Taking advantage of his dual training in both anesthesiology and internal medicine, the doctor founded the Pre-Surgical Services Unit at Bay Area Medical Center in order to optimize patient health prior to surgery.

He has overseen many medical innovations that have been introduced to our area such as ITN for the relief of labor pain in women during the birthing experience.

Beyond his clinical contributions the doctor has been a leader of the medical staff serving twice as President and Past-President of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Medical Credentials Committee, and was elected to represent our region as a member of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin State Medical Society.

Throughout his tenure Dr. Mars has worked to expand medical services offered at our community hospital by playing a central role in actively recruiting new physicians and new specialties to the medical staff, as well as a team of highly skilled Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists from esteemed university centers such as the Mayo Clinic.

The doctor has been a long-time member of the hospital Board of Director’s Planning Committee and is a founding member of the BAMC Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Mars will be joining Renisant™ (www.Renisant.com) a professional advising firm founded by his son, Tony Mars. BAMC wishes Dr. Mars the best of luck in his future endeavors and thanks him for his years of service to our hospital and our community.
