(Marinette, Wis.) – Dr. Lionel V. Kuran, an ear, nose and throat physician with Bay Area Medical Center, announced his departure with the hospital and officially joined Northern Lights Ear, Nose & Throat on July 1.

Kuran ran an ear, nose and throat clinic with BAMC for the past five years. “We have a very good relationship with Dr. Kuran,” explains David Olson, President & CEO of BAMC. “Although he is pursuing an opportunity with a new clinic, we are still happy to have him as part of our medical staff.”

Kuran will be joining a practice with Lorrence A. Hnatuk, MD, and Joseph L. Ruegemer, MD, at the Northern Lights office on Shore Drive in Marinette. Kuran will also assist these physicians with any surgeries that need to be performed at BAMC.

“ I enjoy their youthfulness and new ideas,” Kuran explains as he talks about the advantages of joining his extensive experience with the progressive group at Northern Lights Ear, Nose & Throat. “They have the finest equipment available, and I will get to work with all of that, plus two audiologists.”

At his new office, Kuran will be seeing patients with general ear, nose and throat problems, as well as patients with balance and dizziness problems. He will also perform minor office surgery for cases such as ear tubes, small skin cancers and snoring.

Kuran obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed an internship at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit, Mich., and a residency at Wayne State University in Detroit also.

Dearborn, Mich., was the starting point for his career. Kuran later practiced in Escanaba and finally moved to Marinette in 1989.

As a board-certified physician with 43 years of experience, his passion shows. “My fun comes from my job,” Kuran says. “Medicine is the most fascinating thing to me.”

For a smooth transition, patients are encouraged to come to Northern Lights ENT Clinic at 3123 Shore Drive, Suite 102, in Marinette prior to an appointment with Dr. Kuran in order to sign a release of their medical records.
