Cancer Care Center Groundbreaking Set for Aug. 5 (July 29, 2003)

(Marinette, Wis.) – A groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Tuesday, August 5 at 4:00 P.M. on the front lawn of Bay Area Medical Center to celebrate the beginning of construction of the renovated Bay Area Cancer Care Center.

The program will include remarks by Congressmen Mark Green and Bart Stupak and WI State Assemblyman John Gard.

Brief remarks and groundbreaking will be followed with refreshments. The public is invited to attend the celebration.

The $7 million renovation project will include bringing in the most modern equipment in radiation therapy – the Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. It will also increase the size of the oncology department, provide for better patient services and create space for a second oncologist to work with Dr. David Mertens. The Center will be able to offer both medical and radiation therapy in one location using state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

The partners of the Bay Area Cancer Care Center - Bay Area Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital are funding the renovation. Locally, $2.8 million must be raised to fund the balance of the project.
