Awarded by BAMC for Utilizing Health Education (December 22, 2003) |
(Marinette, Wis.) - On December 17, the efforts of eight people determined to improve their health were celebrated as they received the second annual Health Education Recognition Award during a special ceremony at Bay Area Medical Center. The award winners were Carol Bundy of Menominee, Theresa Charnetski of Menominee, Joyce Deschaine of Menominee, Dennis Kaczmarczyk of Stephenson, Kenneth Kirt of Menominee, Deborah Kohrt of Menominee, Eileen Nicklaus of Peshtigo and Keith Rutherford of Marinette. The awardees were chosen for using health education to make significant improvements in their condition and overall lifestyle. " This award is meant to recognize and encourage health education as a source of improving one's life. All of you have realized this, and your accomplishments are an inspiration to us all," said Jeanette Hensley, RN and member of BAMC's Patient Education Committee. " By just looking at these people we saw what an impact healthcare providers can have on someone's life. Patient Education can save as many lives as medications," said Mary Lou Thoune, RN and staff development coordinator at BAMC. Nomination forms were
sent to local healthcare providers and staff in early November. The Patient
Education Committee selected winners who actively sought education from
these providers and staff, applied that education and achieved significant
results. Nomination criteria were based on achievements such as weight
loss, lowered blood sugar level, lowered cholesterol level, an increase
of exercise or rehabilitation accomplishment. |
