To Hold Cardiac Screening (February 3, 2004) |
Bay
Area Medical Center For Immediate Release: February 3, 2004 For more information contact: (Marinette, Wis.) - Your heart tells you when you're in love, hurt or afraid, but it may not let you know you have heart disease. Take the first step to your heart health by attending the cardiac screening at Bay Area Medical Center's Center for Outpatient Services on February 21 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The $5 cardiac screening includes blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure check, as well as a body composition analysis that measures body fat and indicates whether or not a patient is in the healthy range given individual characteristics such as height, weight, age and sex. According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of men and women. In particular, these diseases cause about a death a minute among females - claiming nearly half a million female lives each year and accounting for more lives than the next seven causes of death combined. Risk factors for cardiovascular diseases include tobacco use, high blood cholesterol and other lipids, physical inactivity, overweight and obesity and diabetes mellitus. The blood sugar and cholesterol portion of the screen require a 12-hour
fasting period and a scheduled appointment. Registration will be limited
to 250 participants, and the registration deadline is Tuesday, February
10. To make an appointment, call BAMC at (715) 735-4200, extension 4439.
