(Marinette, Wis.) – David Olson, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette WI, has been elected to the Council of Regents, the legislative body of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Regents serve a vital link between ACHE and its affiliates by approving governance and membership regulations as well as promoting ACHE programs, services and activities within their respective areas. Olson took office at the Council of Regents meeting February 28, during ACHE’s 47th Congress on Healthcare Management at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. As a Regent, Olson will represent ACHE’s membership in Wisconsin. Olson’s early career in healthcare included positions as a certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, home health aide and research assistant. He joined St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1988 as associate vice president, Rehabilitation and Support Services, and became vice president of that division in 1989. As president and CEO of Victory Medical Center in Stanley, Wis., from 1994 to 1995, Olson oversaw a turnaround in the center’s financial operations. From 1994 to 1998, Olson served as vice president, Administrative Services, for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wis., and also as president of the Foundation of St. Joseph’s Hospital. He became Bay Area Medical Center’s chief operating officer in 1998 and was named CEO & president in 1999. Over the last five years he has lead the 99-bed hospital through a period of significant expansion, including the construction of a 71,000 square-foot outpatient services center and expansion of the hospital’s cancer care and cardiac service lines. In 2001 the American College of Healthcare Executives named him the National Young Health Executive of the Year. Olson serves as a preceptor for the University of Iowa Graduate Program in Hospital Administration and the St. Louis University Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration.
