A SAG repairman worked at fixing a bike during last year’s ride. Over 1,300 bicyclists participated in the MRC ride in 2003.

(Marinette, Wis.) – The BAMC Menominee River Century Bike Ride, one of the largest bicycle rides in the Midwest, will take place this Sunday, June 27, starting at the Marinette High School.

Registrations will be taken up to the day of the ride by mail-in forms or by registering online at www.mrcride.com. Mail-in forms and brochures are available at local chambers of commerce and bike shops. Walk-up registrations are welcome between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. at the Marinette High School at 2135 Pierce Ave. The fee per rider is $20. A full breakfast will be served from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and a post-ride pasta lunch will be served from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Both meals cost $5 each.

This 23rd annual bike ride offers scenic 15 km (10 mile), 40 km (25 mile), 80 km (50 mile) and 120 km (75 mile) routes along rivers, lakeshores and winding back roads through Peshtigo, Porterfield, Marinette and Menominee.

Rest stops are also located along each route and are famous for great food and entertainment, including the rest stop at Dory’s Supper Club that will offer grilled burgers and music by “Show Pros with Rob LeMay” from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Other highlights include top-flight SAG service available on each route to repair bicycles, team competition, and naturalist at the Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife area and members of the Chappee Rapids Audubon Society at the Chappee Rapids Water Stop to point out special historical and botanical features.

The event also includes a free concert on Saturday, June 26 at Menominee’s Great Lakes Memorial Park featuring the Milwaukee-based Irish band Leahys Luck, and an art fair at the Great Lakes Marina the day of the ride.
