information contact: (Marinette, Wis.) –The efforts of six people determined to improve their health were celebrated as they received the 2004 Health Education Recognition Award during a special ceremony at Bay Area Medical Center in November. Among the award winners were Arlene Berge of Menominee, Sandy Burns of Marinette, Ruth Ann Kluetz of Marinette, Raymond Parrett of Wallace and Travis Wilch of Marinette. The awardees were chosen for using health education to make significant improvements in their condition and overall lifestyle. “This award is meant to recognize people who have made great strides in improving their health through education,” said Jeanette Hensley, RN and member of BAMC’s Patient Education Committee. “You have used education to understand how a medical condition can affect your life - whether that means learning about diet and medications, exercise and treatments, or tests and procedures. What each of you has accomplished is amazing.” “Your success stories prove that healthcare providers have a significant impact and positively affect the lives of others. Patient education is so important to the process,” said Hensley. Nomination forms were sent to local healthcare providers and staff affiliated with BAMC in October. The Patient Education Committee selected winners who actively sought education from these providers and staff, applied that education and achieved significant results. Nomination criteria were
based on achievements such as weight loss, lowered blood sugar level, lowered
cholesterol level, an increase of exercise or rehabilitation accomplishment. |
