PRESS RELEASE

Dr. Leow Joins Bay Area Orthopaedic Consultants (January 20, 2005)

Thomas E. Leow, Jr., MD, has joined Bay Area Medical Center to practice under the Bay Area Orthopaedic Consultants clinic.

(Marinette, Wis.) – On January 17 Dr. Thomas E. Leow, Jr., announced the sale of his North Shore Sports Medicine practice to Bay Area Medical Center. Dr. Leow will now practice under a new clinic created by BAMC – Bay Area Orthopaedic Consultants.

Dr. Leow and his staff have moved into the Bay Area Orthopaedic Consultants office at the Mobility Center, 3117 Shore Drive, Marinette, and will begin seeing patients on Thursday.

Later this month Dr. John Britt will join Dr. Leow at the new practice. Dr. Britt is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a special emphasis in spine surgery, coming to BAMC from an orthopaedic and sports medicine center in Louisiana.

“This is a great move for me,” stated Dr. Leow. “Joining Bay Area, and receiving the support they can provide, will allow me to spend more time with my patients and the practice of medicine.”

The addition of Dr. Britt to the practice will also allow for 24/7 orthopaedic call coverage at the BAMC emergency room, and a specialty service in spinal surgery that was not available at BAMC before.

“A lot of things go hand-in-hand with the association of an orthopaedic surgeon and spinal specialist,” said Dr. Leow. “With patients who have problems in both areas, we can consult together and provide the right course of treatment for those conditions. Decisions can be made faster and care can be provided sooner. That can also happen quicker now since patients don’t need to leave town for a consultation.”

Being located at the Mobility Center also has its advantages for patients with across-the-hall access to a brand-new therapy center with warm water therapy, physical, occupational and worker rehabilitation services.

Dr. Leow likes that convenience. “We’ll be able to walk over and consult directly with therapists on patient problems. Their therapy services rival much larger communities. It will allow for better progression in therapy and treatment.”

David Olson, president & CEO of BAMC is also enthused about the arrangement. “Dr. Leow’s move into the Mobility Center is an important element to our original vision of what the center should offer to patients in our community.”

Dr. Leow came to Marinette out of residency in 1998 to build his practice. He received his doctor of medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and completed a surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency from Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies in Kalamazoo, Mich. Dr. Leow also completed a sub internship in sports medicine at Howard Head Medical Clinic in Vail, Co.
