| For more information contact: Bobbie Morton
Candidates must meet rigorous credential and professional practice experience requirements to be eligible to take the examination. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to patients and employers that Moyle possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for patients with diabetes. There are currently more than 14,000 diabetes educators who hold the CDE credential. Moyle has been a diabetic educator at BAMC since July 2001. Prior to this position, she was an RN on the 1-East Medical/Surgical unit. She has been employed at BAMC since 1978 and received her nursing degree from Bay College in Escanaba, Mich. “I am very proud of our diabetes education department and Rebecka. They work hard to help their patients learn how to live healthier, more productive lives,” said Bobbi Morton, director of 1-East medical/surgical unit. Moyle works with two other certified diabetes educators in the diabetes education department. They specialize in the treatment of people with diabetes – giving patients the education and tools they need to self manage their disease throughout their lifetime. BAMC’s educators work in group sessions or one-on-one teaching newly diagnosed patients how and when to inject insulin or take diabetes pills, making healthy food choices, developing a regular exercise plan, learning how to manage medications, how to self monitor their blood sugar, and how to adjust emotionally with their disease. NCBDE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for health care professionals who teach individuals with diabetes how to manage their disease. NCBDE is dedicated to promoting excellence in the field of diabetes education through the development, maintenance, and protection of the CDE credential and certification process.
