(Peshtigo, Wis.) – It took over 13 years for Rod Story, MD, to make it back home. Story, who was a Marinette High School graduate, is the newest physician to join the NorthReach Healthcare Peshtigo Family Practice. He joins Carol Orwig, family nurse practitioner, at the Peshtigo clinic. Appointments can be scheduled at the clinic five days a week. “I wanted to come back to the area to be close to my family. I knew it was time to come home to raise my own family and start a practice here,” says Dr. Story about choosing this area to build his practice. Dr. Story is a board-eligible family practice physician with certification in advanced life support in obstetrics, advanced cardiac life support, neonatal advanced life support, and pediatric advanced life support. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA. He then completed a Mayo Family Practice Residency in La Crosse, WI, and spent three years there before returning to Peshtigo. At his practice, Dr. Story provides healthcare for the whole family – from newborns to seniors. He is qualified to provide total healthcare including diagnosing and treating illness, preventing disease, managing serious conditions and offering women’s health, children’s care and hospital care. His special interests include office-based orthopaedics such as casting, splinting and fracture management; managing diabetes and other chronic diseases; and providing hospital care. Preventative health efforts and working with each patient for the best possible care are strong focuses for Dr. Story. “I like to educate my patients - explain all the options, and work together to find an option to treat you best. My patients want to know what’s going on with their body, and I put it in terms they can understand.” Your “family’s medical home” is a term Dr. Story likes to describe about the future of Family Practice. “It’s the first point for all of your healthcare, from basic health to guiding you through the best options when a specialist is involved. “I want to be the hometown doctor your family can trust, and someone you can see the same day for urgent needs.” Dr. Story and his wife, Jenny, have five daughters and are currently expecting their sixth child. They enjoy bicycling, gardening, camping as a family and getting involved with the YMCA.
