(Daggett, Mich.) – NorthReach Healthcare announced that Lisa D. Staber, MD, has signed as a full-time physician with the Daggett Medical Clinic. Dr. Staber has been at the clinic as an interim physician since April 2006, and officially signed full-time with NorthReach in August. She is board-certified in Family Practice and sees patients five days a week. “We are happy to be bring a great physician with a lot of experience and a passion for caring for people to the local community,” said Chuck Quartana, NorthReach Healthcare CEO. Dr. Staber said she was drawn to this area because of the scenery, the Great Lakes and the small town atmosphere. “But most of all I like my patients and my staff. They are friendly, outgoing and cheerful.” The clinic also welcomed the addition. “We’ve been very busy, and the patients just love her,” said Patti Heikkinen, NorthReach clinic manager. Prior to coming to Daggett, Dr. Staber worked in outpatient and inpatient physician roles at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital & Healthcare Center in Newberry, Mich. Her medical career trails back to South Dakota where she received her degree from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion. She then completed a transitional internship at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center, and preliminary surgery experience at St. Joseph Hospital – both in Denver. Dr. Staber spent a number of years as a traveling physician for numerous hospitals and clinics in Colorado, New Mexico and Minnesota before completing her Family Practice residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. She has a wide range of experience in areas including occupational health, emergency, urgent care, surgery and OB/GYN. At the Daggett Medical Clinic, Dr. Staber will be providing comprehensive family care for all ages. She has special interests in geriatrics, family medicine and women’s wellness issues. “I really love working with the elderly, and also teaching women about their bodies and how to be vigilant about their health,” Dr. Staber said. She stresses regular checkups, wellness exams and various screenings to prevent or catch conditions early such as diabetes, cancer, heart problems, kidney disease and hypertension. “If you can catch these conditions early, you can get control before people lose their lives. I don’t want patients to wait until it is too late.” Dr. Staber also believes in minimizing medications when possible and focusing on other lifestyle areas to improve health including exercise, weight loss, developing hobbies and getting involved in the community. On a personal side, she enjoys hiking, camping, gardening, taking care of her two dogs and singing music at church and weddings. Dr. Staber is currently accepting new patients.
