BAMC Recognizes Employees for December (December 15, 2006)

Joan Beekman, RN, OB/Gyn, was named Bay Area Medical Center’s employee of the month for December 2006.

(Marinette, Wis.) – Bay Area Medical Center recognized Joan Beekman, RN in OB/GYN as employee of the month for December and acknowledged seven others as Service Care Stars.

Joan graduated from Stephenson High School and continued her education at Bay College first receiving her LPN Degree and later receiving her RN Degree.

Joan began working for Bay Area Medical Center in 1981 as an LPN in the OB/Gyn department. After a brief relocation to Dayton, Ohio, Joan returned to BAMC’s OB/Gyn department where she has held the role of RN for the past 14 years. As an OB/Gyn RN, Joan provides patient care in areas such as ante partum, labor, post partum, newborn, and gynecology.

When asked to comment about being a BAMC employee, Joan said “Working in Obstetrics, Gynecology and the Nursery is exciting and fun, but is also very intense. I enjoy working with people the most, particularly with labor.” She goes on to say “Seeing the hospital grow has been amazing. I’m extremely lucky to have BAMC available for my family’s medical needs.”

Sue Larson, Director of OB/Gyn, said “Joan is always upbeat and is respected by her peers. She communicates well and is an excellent resource for the OB staff. Joan treats her patients with compassion and makes work fun too.”

In December, seven other employees were named Service Care Stars for exemplifying the hospital’s Service Care Standards. These employees were

  • Michelle Russell, Transcriptionist, Dr. Leow’s Orthopedic Clinic, for making a positive first impression;
  • Vickie Molinare, Clinical Coordinator, Informational Technology, for treating others as guests;
  • Cheryl Brunner, Pharmacy Tech, Stephenson Pharmacy, for developing service recovery;
  • Shelley Schomer, Operating Room Technician, Surgical Services, for communicating effectively;
  • David Kamin, Facilities worker, Facilities Management, for serving others from a team-centered approach;
  • Brinda Braun, Console Operator, Registrations, for projecting a positive attitude; and
  • Gail Meyer, LPN, Dialysis, for making excellence the goal.

Bay Area Medical Center is a 99-bed general acute care hospital located in Northeast Wisconsin.
