The Speech/language Pathology Department at Bay Area Medical Center serves those individuals (children and adults) and their families who have difficulty communicating. Speech therapy may benefit those who have had a stroke, brain injury or neurological disorders, or who demonstrate developmental speech and language delays. Speech therapy involves evaluation and treatment of speech and language, articulation disorders, voice disorders, cognitive/communication and swallowing disorders. The focus for those involved in speech therapy is functional and effective communication and/or the safe intake of foods and liquids. Speech therapy will attempt to utilize an individual's attributes to strengthen their skills.
